I used to
live in a college for so many years. There the students were distributed in
sunny rooms or darkness rooms. Due to I never got the needed status and college
prestige, I could never be moved to the sunny rooms. It seemed that students
from these sunny rooms were happier and with better color as we used to have
painful look.
These
wishes of past reivindications, joined with other my experiences, motivated me
to put all my best on this tender and build a college where I could live.
The program
was ambitious and it planned a mist college with dining-room, bar,
assembly-room, chapel, sport areas, etc. We extended this program with
show-rooms, music-room, library and drawing-rooms.
The first thought
was to isolate these culture areas, reducing the ground and placing them to 3 m
under the road level, in order to be isolated from the noisy areas. On this
way, the chapel, the assembly-room, the library and the showroom were buried
from the entry level and would be opened to big interior landscapes, or to big,
english and quiet courts.
From this
level -3m to the 0 level, the ending site, the ground was banked by every 50
cm, placing the main access on an
intermediate level and increasing it with the bar, playing-room, dining-room...
to arrive to the sport courts and the swimming pool. All these spaces that face
to the garden have awning courts for breakfast, reading or relaxing.
Mainly, is
an opened space where it is found the shadow that wants. A water sheet,
cypresses, other trees, a grass carpet and of course and olive tree. In summer
if it is wanted, it is possible to go shoeless across, from one building to
another, to the swimming pool.
The rooms
are small buildings of 30 rooms, and in every floor these are six single and
two double rooms. Total 180. In every floor there is a small kitchen for not
going always to the dining room and cleaning room, with a hole that,
vertically, goes along the block to the corridors. There, they have been communicated
by some laundry trolleys, located at the end under the kitchen and services.
The
corridors join the blocks, but overcoat they shelter the viewed tubes from the
whole centralized installations just in the middle of the plot.
In every
block the rooms are orientated to the south and to the west, and in the north
area, there is a room for studying, on the first floor, and other one on the third
floor, separated by an intermediated terrace opened on the second floor.
They were
separated by affinities: students-artists block, scientific block, learned
block. In 30 by 30 and joined at the common areas.
Was built a
college? Were they students apartments? A cultural centre for the city and
university? It is a place to have meetings, for reflection and studying, by
mainly for living.
