dD+P worked with the United Nations to design new sustainable landscape elements and restore the existing historic campus grounds of the iconic United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
The United Nations selected dD+P because of the studio’s large profile of highly visible projects including numerous urban design, landscape design, and public facility projects of nearly every scale and use. The protection and relocation of gifts, sculptures, and memorials were included in the project scope.
The campus improvements program’s purpose was to enable the highly recognized complex to operate following current principles of sustainability and efficiency, thus complying with local codes and standards.
Security upgrades included the design of perimeter protection, particularly high-profile streetscape elements along First Avenue, and the prominent international entry to the main campus complex. Fencing was integrated to aesthetically create a dignified and appropriate environment for the organization’s visionary work.
