The UNIQLO Jeju Donam store, opened in April 2025, represents the first application in Korea of UNIQLO’s new roadside design manual—a prototype that redefines the brand’s approach to suburban and destination retail.
Set on an independent site along Yeonbuk-ro, the building positions itself as both a functional retail hub and a visible urban marker within Jeju’s unique landscape.
At the forefront, a striking 5.8-meter logo cube ensures long-distance visibility and serves as the key identity element of the roadside typology.
The building mass is deliberately simple and box-like, yet its interior is expanded by high ceilings and a barrel-vaulted roof, creating a single, continuous retail hall.
Within this “one-room” volume, circulation, product zones, and experiential programs such as UTme! are seamlessly integrated.
The new manual emphasizes optimized vehicular flow and simplified customer journeys.
The Donam store reflects this through clearly separated entry and exit routes, a canopy that organizes arrival, and landscaping that guides visitors toward the heart of the store.
Locally sourced Jeju basalt stone grounds the building in place, softening the global prototype with regional character. At night, illuminated façades and the glowing cube transform the store into a roadside lantern.
As a result, the Jeju Donam store stands as both a prototype of UNIQLO’s new roadside strategy and a refined retail architecture where global standards meet local identity.
