Union Square Dog Run

In order to
develop a program and understand the requirements necessary for a dog
run, Arpad Baksa visited several of the city's existing dog runs and
spoke to several of the people who frequented them.  It is from these
conversations that Arpad would decide on the program requirements,
which would be used as the basis for his Dog Run design. The
intent of the design is to create a stimulating environment for the dog
as well as owner.  It is important to create an environment, which
helps foster the relationship and interactions between dogs and people
to make the Dog Run an enjoyable experience for everyone, dogs included. From
the practical end of things, Arpad has decided on using sturdy
materials that are easily cleaned and that can withstand the elements,
whether created by nature, dog or man.  Wood and gravel is being
eschewed in favor of concrete and steel.  “Cleanability” is one of the
other primary factors pushing the design.  Being able to maintain a
clean, odor-free Dog Run will maximize the experiences of everyone
involved.
