The building allows for multiple uses for the University of New Haven and the neighboring community. The ground level, located below street grade and accessible from the campus side of the building, accommodates University services, including controlled residence hall access, mail room, computer room, food service, and recreational facilities for the students.
The first level, at street grade, is separated from the University uses and cannot be accessed through the Residence Hall. It is be devoted to retail use, providing convenient services for both the community and the university students. The 2nd through 4th levels contain 163 residential units with lounges on each level.
The building totals 60,000 gross square feet, including 11,000 square feet of retail. There is separate parking for the retail and separate loading and unloading areas for both the retail and the Residence Hall.
Kagan’s client, Acorn Group, developed the project and is leasing the building to the University.
