In response to this open competition for rethinking the US/Mexico border crossing at the city of Nogales, SMA proposed replacing the wall with a mile-long undulating verdant park, anchored at each end by a mega structure. A large micro-climate dome straddles the border crossing in the center of town, while, one mile away, a large reservoir or water basin hovers alongside the vehicular crossing outside of town. Rainwater from the vessel flows through the park to the dome, feeding the planted canopy. The 2017 open ideas competition was sponsored by Archstorming.
