Two Magpies Bakery, designed by Paul Crofts Studio, is set on the picturesque high street of Southwold in Suffolk. Fresh bread and patisserie are baked on-site and freshly supplied to the shelves every morning and throughout the day, and a view directly into the kitchen provides customers with a glimpse of the artisan bakers at work.
The space is made up of a series of bespoke elements made from Douglas fir finished in white lye, creating clean lines with a contemporary feel and a pared-back canvas on which to display the highly crafted products on sale.
Communal tables and a wall-mounted bench are designed by Paul Crofts, and made from solid Douglas fir with painted turned legs. Running the length of the seating area is a bespoke shelf supported by white dowels arranged in an asymmetric, nest-like pattern. A silver ring trapped within the motif provides further reference to the magpie of the bakery’s name.
The rear of the shop is clad with bespoke timber shingles, inspired by birds’ feathers and stained in a series of overlapping greys.
Warm wood, clean white detailing and a high level of craftsmanship combine to create an intimate and relaxed setting in which to enjoy the exceptional food on offer.
