Two Birds combines co working spaces with a fully staffed, licensed child care center for infants and toddlers.
The new concept by co-founders and Georgetown's business school graduates, is the first of it's kind in the United States.
Two Birds mends the market void between parents who work from home and those who are part of large corporations that provide child care services.
The company was awarded a $30K grant from Monumental Sports CEO Ted Leonsis, the owner of the Washington Wizards and Capitals, as part of a pitch competition for Georgetown students. They also received $650K in funding from a combination of angel investors, and a $30K grant from the Washington, D.C. Department of Education.
Roughly 70% of the space is devoted to the child care center, which accommodates up to 100 children. The younger children will be on the first floor, with a ground-level entrance going directly into the space, and the older children will be on the second floor.
The co working space, also on the second floor, is fully separated and has it's own pantry, printing area, individual phone rooms, conference room, and ample work space options for users. Supporting spaces including a separate pantry area, private nursing and pump rooms will provide additional space for parent educational programming like sleep training experts and lactation consultants, occasional happy hours, and staff education.
