Twin Peaks House is an alteration to a historic villa in central Auckland, which takes inspiration from the original architecture in creating a contemporary space for a young family. The brief presented by the owners was to expand the living areas of the house while fundamentally reimagining the way the spaces could be used. The principal strengths of the original dwelling were used as the starting points for the design. While the floor plate of the house was small, the roof was set at a lofty height and each small room was bathed in light by large windows. These two features were adapted and used in a new addition at the rear of the house, which consists of a simple but rich material palette, and of grand proportions.
