Following 2 courtyards, a green wall & a roof terrace in London, we were commissioned to layer, edit & improve the planting in the clients' Tuscany home. This was our fourth project for them.
The 70,000-sqm estate is home to hundreds of Pine, Cypress, Fig, Pomegranate & Olive trees, laid out on steep rocky terrain, enjoying commanding vistas of the surrounding rural landscape and its iconic sunsets & sunrises.
With planting randomness created by the clients over a 10-year period since first remodelling the villa, there was plenty to edit to produce definition in specific plant groupings. We repositioned trees & shrubs, layering a multitude of perennials, herbs & grasses.
Key plants include Teucrium, Westringia, Verbena, Oreganum, Miscanthus, Muhlenbergia, Imperata, Erica , Gaura & Dietes - all are Mediterranean species ideal for the sandy sunny site.
The clients enjoy modern art, and collected 3 exquisite contemporary sculptures displayed in key positions across the site. A human head provides a symmetrical focal point in a classical vista lined with Box balls in the Pine wood by the house. A bronze circle rises from Irises en masse by the house. A human figure is cloaked by Miscanthus grasses in the swimming pool patio, surveying the entire garden.
