Location and context: The site is in a prime location in Bai Dai, Cam Lam, Khanh Hoa province with direct access from Nguyen Tat Thanh Street - the major traffic route connecting Nha Trang City and Cam Ranh International Airport.
The project's scale is approximately 1.71 hectares and located in a highly sacred place on a large hill facing the East Sea, with the West being the Gac Ma Memorial Site, the East being the sea, the South and the North being the resort area. The design requirement ensures the identity of modernity, yet it also respects the historical area of the adjacent Gac Ma Memorial Site.
Massing idea:
The design inspiration comes from the adjacent Gac Ma Memorial Site which is the memorial area of 64 flowers dedicated to the 64 naval officers and soldiers of Vietnam who bravely sacrificed their lives for the country. The streams of passionate energy flowing from the heart of Mother Earth, transforming and rising, symbolize the courageous spirit of the Vietnamese Khánh Hòa people. This organic shape is the inspiration for the architectural massing of the structure. With gentle design lines, blending into the terrain and landscape, weaving through underground streams, winding around dunes, and rising strongly; it creates three main views: Towards Gạc Ma Island - Towards Trường Sa Lớn Island, and towards the East Sea.
=> The overall architectural form, with three strong branches toward the ocean, represents the aspiration to master the sea and islands - the sacred territory of the nation
Inside the museum, the arrangement of voids with increasing height combined with the exhibition space's narrowing and enlarging aims to invoke the visitor’s emotional journey and create a visual impression with a deeper meaning and understanding. The inter-floor spaces have views extending towards the sea, engaging the vast natural scenery.
The arrangement of the exhibition display is specialized and follows each type of topic, consistent with the meaning and characteristics of each type of artifact. Combined with lighting effects, modern display, and projection technologies, it creates an attractive museum space, enhancing visitor interaction and enjoyment.
The landscape idea respects the existing terrain, using local plants that adapt to the climate and soil conditions to create a natural landscape with high visual impact. This highlights the structure of the building rising from the ground, proud and strong.
The Truong Sa Museum is like a gentle flow, seamlessly continuing the spiritual values and architectural space - landscape of the Gac Ma Soldiers' Memorial Area. The journey into the museum space is a journey to feel the cultural and historical values. Every corner and every wall of the museum plays a role as a living artifact. More than an inanimate structure made of bricks and stones, the museum is like a "living being" embodying the spirit and soul of Trường Sa.
