THE CONTEXT, A FOUNDING PRINCIPLE
FOR THE PROJECT
The project site is atypical for Paris : it is a very big unit, historically made up of 3 parcels, rather narrow, equivalent width and deep enough. The central plot was occupied by a small house to preserve, built in the 17th century ahead the other buildings of the street. This situation reinforces its presence.
The first biggest stake was to establish an architectural dialog between the neighbouring and the new buildings.
The neighbouring house is very impressive: 6 floors high on one side and 8 on the other.
The project consists in breaking the parcel into 3 separate bands with three different buildings, as much in their volume as in façade materials: white concrete, rehabilitation lime plaster, grey coating. The windows are also different for each building with a variation of architectural style.
Side street the facade has three architectures, which does not suggest that this is a major housing project. This configuration allows, from an urban perspective, to restore the historic composition plot in the street, certainly more favourable to the preserved building. From an architectural and social standpoint that allows to break the scale of the large complex of housing to offer the scale of the Parisian building, more domestic.
The buildings created have their own address : 20, 22 and 24 Basfroi street and their input, their mailboxes, their common premises. This encourages ownership and identification of housing for its inhabitants. From the standpoint of customs, it provides good functionality.
