(architects cooperation): ARGE Lechner Lechner Schallhammer

The subsidized residential complex on Triebenbachstrasse is situated in the city of Salzburg, within the state of Salzburg, Austria. Conceived by the architectural firm (cooperation) AGRE Lechner Lechner Schallhammer for the non-profit Salzburger Wohnbaugesellschaft m.b.H. (GSWB), the project aimed to develop 41 residential units distributed across four distinct structures. The development site corresponds to the former "Aukarl" farm, incorporating and restoring two historical sculptures from the original estate into the new architectural ensemble.

The street-facing, elongated building acts as an acoustic buffer, forming a tranquil and protected communal space within the site's interior. This four-story volume is bisected by a passageway, facilitating pedestrian connectivity across the development. The strategic staggering of the third and fourth floors introduces an articulated design language that mitigates the building’s perceived height from the street. The arrangement of the balconies, reminiscent of a bracketed framework, further refines the architectural expression and creates visual interest.

The interior landscape is characterized by naturalistic green areas, designed as wildflower meadows to foster habitats for bees and various insects. A preserved mature tree from the original site serves as a focal point, with the new buildings carefully organized around it. Ground-floor areas are dedicated to bicycle storage within light-filled rooms, promoting both functionality and daylight accessibility. Additionally, the site offers generous recreational spaces and relaxation zones, effectively shielded from external noise by the elongated structure’s strategic positioning.
