Tribute Hotel is the first of a new brand established in Hong Kong. It is a small, mid-range hotel of 24 rooms offering an intimate guest experience with a subtle local feel. Spawton Architecture created a community based, select service hotel comprised of contemporary, simple details within the small footprint of an existing office building.
The design is both global and local, fresh and raw. Rough concrete walls and columns expose the skeleton of the 1980’s tower whilst luxurious brass detailing adds a sense of refinement. Local history and references drive the aesthetic and collaboration with Hong Kong based collaborators further reinforces the sense of place. Working with initial ideas from ID Hong Kong, Spawton worked closely with the client team to realise a complex project of renovation.
The project comprised of the full interior of the building, from new services and lifts to walls and finishes. The external front façade was also completely replaced with a fully glazed curtain wall, exposing the edge of the concrete slabs and filling the rooms with light.
The 5-layered neon light feature in the lobby is an homage to Hong Kong's neon signs. Neon signs have played an important role in defining much of the vibrant streetscapes of Hong Kong, particularly in Yau Ma Tei, since the 1950s.
Designed by Spawton Architecture, the neon feature shows the ever changing Hong Kong reclaimed shoreline, from the original shoreline (red) to the present day (blue).
