The clients- whose careers dictate very different schedules and needs-
retained SAS to design an apartment that could accommodate these
differences while considering space for time spent together, like a
quiet breakfast or entertaining friends.
We took advantage of the apartment’s prominent panoramic views of
Manhattan as the starting point for our design. With multiple windows
looking in multiple directions over the city, our strategy revolved
around opening up the space so that all views could be seen at once from
a central living space, while also accommodating an additional bedroom,
bathroom, and storage space. As collectors of architectural antiques,
the clients infused the apartment with their finds including light
fixtures, sinks, doors, and hardware; SAS provided a backdrop of
appropriate materials and finishes that complemented their patina. Oiled
Russian White Oak floors, doors, and millwork are complimented with
white and grey marble, oiled steel, hammered glass, and rubbed brass.
