Bocas de Ceniza is the point where the Magdalena River flows into the Caribbean Sea by the Colombian Atlantic coast. The blue of the sea, the gray of the river and the greenish of the swamp build this unique landscape. The railway line was built on the Bocas de Ceniza cutwater, which in the past transported materials and workers from Las Flores to the tip of the cutwater; today it mobilizes tourists and residents of the area.
By opening new commercial spaces for those who reside in the surrounding neighborhoods and connecting the landscape of the cutwater infrastructure with the city of Barranquilla, the ‘Ciénaga de Mallorquín Tourist Train’ aims to establish tourism in the area in a safe and effective way for its inhabitants.
The Tourist Train project is layed over the old route of the Bocas de Ceniza railway. It serves as a new platform for ecotourism where it will be possible to appreciate the landscape of the mouth of the Magdalena river and recognize its transformation throughout history. The route is articulated by several stops where it is possible to contemplate the river and swamp ecosystems simultaneously.
