This project was built on the top of a mountain in Malibu with full ocean and Santa Monica mountain views (360). The topography was not altered. The home, studio, guest house, pool, Koi ponds and Turtle ponds, and cabana were all fitted to the landscape.
The client wanted a modern home but it had to be warm and inviting. The house projects in several directions off the mountain. Water and planted herb roofs were incorporated. Solar and grey water systems were incorporated to reduce energy and water consumption
The 5 acres of landscaping were conceived and only used draught tolerant plantings from all over the globe. We brought in over a 1,000 different varieties of plants and water plants for the 40,000 gallons of ponds.
The studio was situated in the pond for aesthetic and fire safety. Stepping stones lead you over the water into the main reception area. The water kept the building 10 degrees cooler than the surrounding property.
The solar heated salt water pool was 110,000 gallon pool. One of the largest in Los Angeles. The entertainment areas are around the pool with kitchen, bar, bbq, dining areas, seating areas, steam shower, and 6 person sauna
