The project is to be constructed for educational purposes (officers' training centre) and residential purposes (student dormitory), Drujos str. 11, Vilnius.
The plot is located in the territory of Vilnius city, in the Old Town area of Vilnius city. According to the KPD data, the plot is located in the 66th block (U1P, 16073).
Site plan solutions
The site layout is designed to adapt to the terrain, so the building is arranged on two levels. The building is designed with two blocks connected by a gallery, so that the inner courtyard is divided into two parts at different heights. The access to the plot is designed in the existing location. The main entrance is to be on the street side, so paths are provided from the existing pavement and pedestrian bridge to the building. Parking is provided in the northern part of the site. A courtyard for the recreation of pupils and staff is to be provided in the western part of the site with cast concrete benches and planting.
On the eastern side of the projected yard, a plaza shall be provided for rallies and events. This area includes amfit theatre benches on the slope, as well as space for planting with a cast concrete bench and wooden seating surrounding the area.
Architectural expression
Two blocks are being designed - a dormitory and a training building for officers. The dormitory block is designed behind the main block, as it is intended to distance it from the intense street noise. Two courtyards are formed between the buildings at different levels.
The Officers' Training Building is designed along the street with the main entrance, and the building is composed along the axis lines of the streets. Two inner courtyards are formed at different levels. The roof of the building is designed with a single slope, in keeping with the silhouettes of the old town. The slope is chosen to emphasise the crossings of the terrain. The roof is visible from Druja Street as if it were an overlapping roof, considering the dominant roof silhouettes of the Druja Street skyline.
Functional zoning
Dormitories:
On the ground floor, there will be a canteen for students and a semi-open car park. On the second and third floors, student single and double rooms with en-suite bathrooms are planned. Single and twin bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. There will be a common area with a kitchenette, a lounge and other ancillary facilities.
Officials Learning Centre:
A shooting range and technical rooms are planned in the basement. On the ground floor there is a reading and library area, a lobby, lounge areas and a conference room for up to 90 people. Simulation rooms simulating a prisoner's cell, changing rooms for students and a sports hall are planned. On the second floor, training rooms, simulation rooms and administration offices are planned.
The third floor is dedicated to learning. It includes classrooms for learning and a conference room.
Facade solution
The roofs of the buildings are pitched, in keeping with the silhouettes of the old town. The roof of the Learning Centre is single pitched. The slope has been chosen to emphasise the existing terrain crossings. The roof is visible from Druja Street as an overlapping roof, taking into account the dominant roof silhouettes in the Druja skyline. The residential block is gabled. The aim is to reflect the purpose of the building and the gable, visible from the Old Town, blends into the Old Town skyline.
The materials chosen for the learning center are of natural shades. Concrete slabs are designed, divided into vertical segments. In between, imitation corten panels. Dormitory – a few accents are reflected from the main block, thus maintaining harmony between the buildings, the other two facades are rendered.
