The historic stockyards of Tokyo Bay have been reimagined as a shopping environment evocative of the site’s industrial and maritime character. Currently home to 200 retail outlets, the development has become a more robust destination which includes dining and entertainment. The design is comprised of a three-story retail center that features four large forms reminiscent of a ship hulls, in homage to the sea vessels formerly built at the dockyard. The strong curves frame an outdoor plaza with stunning views of the bay and the Tokyo skyline beyond, providing an alfresco setting for various temporary retail pavilions. The plaza continues the ship motif, from the metal rails to the balconied levels which resemble the superstructure of a modern vessel. A secondary building that flanks the courtyard consists of two levels of retail program with an additional two levels of parking deck.
