The project is part of the conversion to 5 star luxury hotel of a portion of the monumental building on the north side of Piazza Duomo. Among other things I was called to design a suite type at the 3rd floor, the Suite n° 11. The project is characterized by the reduction of internal divisions and the application of simple and straight geometries. With the only exception of the wc cabin, other bathroom’s facilities (washbasin, shower and tub) are positioned in a sort of open space, fluctuating between wall mirrors and glass doors, and merging with wardrobe area. White curtains and sliding doors made by transparent glass are the only separations with the rest of the suite, to recover the ancient symbolism and rituals of roman "balneum". Tactile surfaces (such as wood and rough ceramic) and warm colors create a reassuring space, while mirror surfaces and sliding glass doors amplify the volumes and let the sights play. Ceramic coverings present an oversize magnum format, up to 280 cm (installation plans were shared with Florim design department due to the difficulty of the lay-out). The wooden furniture, by Riva 1920, celebrate italian crafts and give the space a domestic intimacy. No luxuries and no glitters, but soft and warm lights, and furniture reduced to the essentials, that portray a typical Milanese approach to the project. In this way the spirituality of the cathedral and the history of its square can pervade the interior of the suite, inspiring to the host a sense of belonging and inner peace.
