TOWNHOUSE APARTMENTS

New York, NY, United States

YEAR
2013
This stately townhouse sits on a beautiful Chelsea street steps away from the Highline on New York City’s west side. After years of being partially vacant, Shadow Architects worked with the owners to renovate the garden duplex unit and three full-floor apartments into three rental units and an owner-occupied unit on the top floor. Per the owners’ wishes to renovate the building on a relatively modest budget, a large portion of funds was allocated to plumbing, electrical and Landmarks approved windows which were all or almost fully replaced. On the interior, the firm maintained many of the original details to keep the heart of the building alive, while developing a scope of new interior finish work that would be durable and price conscious.
