This
early nineteenth century private house is located in the heart of Ghent,
overlooking the natural beauty, art and architecture of the Citadel Park. While
the façade of this building remains unchanged, aside from a reduction in size
of some windows, the interior is entirely transformed and reconverted from
separate flats into a single cosy and warm winter house. The
first thing that catches the eye is the curved shape of the house which is
fully defined from the inside out. A pavilion and terrace have been added to
the roof of the house. The
key challenge was creating a new flow by harmonising the front and back rooms.
The main architectural focus falls on its 4.5 x 20 meter dimensions by bringing
in voluminous components and dark grey mirrors combined with carefully
considered luxurious and contemporary elements.
