Solution
M Moser’s design solution emphasizes an open plan team environment for Tough Mudder, which allows for large “town hall” gatherings on the main floor where reception, and a café-lounge resides with the base used as a “podium” for announcements and speakers.
The design intent connects directly with the brand sensibilities of Tough Mudder featuring simple and authentic materials referencing the “rugged” nature of their product experience in both smooth and rough treatments. The design highlights include wall coverings that mimic corten steel, a boardroom wall with cone-shaped black foam surface tiles for acoustic control and battered door frames serve as reminders of the obstacles conquered and achievement earned on the Tough Mudder course.
M Moser brought to life the envisioned honest and industrial aesthetic by leaving open ceilings in most areas and incorporating industrial light fixtures such as jelly jars. Working with a cost-conscious budget, costs were contained by the creative use of materials. Repurposed wood and cement cinder blocks were constructed into a meeting room table; tattooed with Tough Mudder’s logo and participant autographs.
Informal café, lounges and both open and enclosed meeting areas are incorporated to serve as easy access to Tough Mudder staff for alternate work areas, impromptu meetings and causal collision.
