TON Architects is a team of young architects currently implementing many projects in Hue city - the urban area which since 2020 has achieved positive social-economic changes and exciting construction activities. Investors in Hue begins to have new ways of thinking, growing interest in new ideas from young architects.
TON's workspace is the architectural practice of TON Architects, located on the first floor of Vicoland apartment building (Hue) with an area of 55m2. The workspace’s mission is to inspire colleagues and interns to work, as well as a place to meet and exchange plans with the investors of the projects.
Working space was implemented with limited budget, so the architect proposed a solution to renovate and use materials at a moderate cost. The main functions of the room include reception, desk, group meeting - model making, and toilet. Being designed in an open-space direction which enhances the connection between architects, the workspace has no division between rooms, the façade is made of glass to connect the interior of the room with the public space outside. Because of the living environment in the apartment complex, which has little green area, mainly urban trees (sidewalks), the introduction of trees into the interior space will bring a friendly and close atmosphere between man and nature. Watering and taking care of plants during breaks or after work is necessary to improve people's mood, relieve stress and bring forth positive emotions.
The roof in front of the workspace is made up of a load-bearing steel frame system, a polycarbonate corrugated roof and an array of round tubular steel curtains to block direct light from outside. The workspace is located in an apartment building facing the north direction, so the purpose of the roof system is to cover the rain while still receving the light. Materials used for roofing can only be glass or polycarbonate. The use of glass will make the cost of roof construction beyond financial means, even unsafe because in apartments, the occupant’s awareness is not high, causing some heavy objects to fall on the ground floor’s roof sometimes. Therefore, transparent roofing is the optimal solution at the time, which is affordable and can be replaced after a period of use.
