For the Fall / Winter 2007 collection of Tommy Hilfiger, our client
wished to create a space evocative of americana and the open spaces of
nature found in California and the west. We created a towering forest from a 1939 sepia tone tintype of the giant
redwood forrest in California. Suspended overtop a black plexiglass
runway, a singularly monolithic photographic print (30’-0”wide x 80’-0”
high) backed the stage. From this image, we lifted trees and printed
gauzy scrim banners to create a veritable forest of sepia-tone trees
through which the models would enter, weaving around half-tone gauze.
The reflections in the deck served to double the images and expand the
vastness of the space.
