San Francisco’s former Central YMCA building, constructed following the 1906 earthquake, has been converted to 172 units of permanent housing and supportive service space.
The ground floor is largely occupied by the San Francisco Department of Public Health’s new Tom Waddell Urban Health Clinic for residents of Tenderloin supportive housing. It will serve 25,000 visitors annually with an emphasis on holistic services, wellness, and permanence. The gymnasium on the 5th floor will be available to clinic visitors and building residents for health and fitness classes.
The project earned LEED CI Gold Certification.
