We were appointed by the client to design an office space capable of housing 35 employees. The given site is a 380sqm underground space above which is an open air courtyard surrounded by tall buildings. The main entrance to the office is a box clad in perforated aluminium sheets that can either open up or remain shut giving the entrance a sturdy look. Following down the steps the first thing the visitor sees is a reception desk cladded in red formica. The entire space is kept as an open plan. The editor in chief's office is located in the centre and is placed as such in order to supervise the entire floor. In order to organise the rest of the floor:1. we designed semi-transparent partitions that only go up to 2 meters in height creating offices that require necessary privacy and two timber partitions creating a working area for 20 journalists. The space just below the skylight has been turned into a seating area. As the entire office follows the same colour scheme throughout, the more public areas such as the reception and the seating area stand out in more bold colours.
