Located in inner Melbourne, the extension of Tivoli Road is designed to embrace the high-density context while providing a calm internal environment.
Happily for Jo Foong, this project meant revisiting a renovation she was involved in during her time at BE Architecture, prior to founding Foomann. The home was already beautiful, with the client’s brief primarily involving additional space. The design by Foomann was respectful of the existing building fabric and proceeded with the blessing of the previous architect.
The family includes three children and the key motivation for the project was to provide flexibility as they grow older. The new lounge features a pool table and built-in seating with storage for board games; it was designed as a space for kids or adults to occupy and entertain. Being elevated and outward-looking, it offers something distinct from the existing family room which embraces the private courtyard. The parent’s suite means the kids’ bedrooms now occupy a distinct zone of the house; a scenario that will suit the family for many years to come.
