“Tirana
Lake” masterplan sorts out the planning of two areas at the south
of Tirana, four hectares each. These areas are close but not
adjacent, overlooking at an artificial lake.
In
order to answer the demand of high construction density, large
platforms are designed to host important public functions at the
first level and are treated as green areas on the top floor; on these
platforms arise the residential and tertiary buildings.
A
new layer of the city with its streets, squares and courtyards is
created on the platforms level; it allows stepping over the lake
embankment and generates a new waterfront that can be used as a
continuous path throughout the project.The
overall design produce an urban artificial landscape in continuity
with the surrounding nature. These green systems are spatial, visual,
and functional connection areas and are displaced between several
facilities: they are intersection for public and private space,
daytime and night-time activities, and interior and exterior flows. While,
on the north-side the “platform building” leans out on the lake,
on the south-side a green platform develops towards the sky and
becomes a vertical building that hosts the public library.
