It was almost inevitable: an engaging food hall coming to Chicago’s hot Fulton Market neighborhood. But without OKW, it might have fallen apart.
We meant that literally. Working for the Landlord, OKW discovered during interior demolition of the original meatpacking building that the building was structurally unsound and an immediate danger to the public. Working with Landmarks, the architecture team salvaged the original bricks for reuse and used them in a modern — and safe — reconstruction.
The new building opened in late 2019 as Time Out Market Chicago: an open and energetic food hall with multiple cuisines distributed along its perimeter. The two-story volume’s standout feature is a dramatic skylight that overlooks the long, communal tables spread beneath. All along the second floor, guests enjoy additional seating, a rooftop bar, and an outdoor terrace.
