Floating in the rainforest canopy in Coorabell, Timber Wing is a four-car carport that feels more like a piece of sculpture than a functional structure.
The roof is formed from two angled timber blades that fold back on themselves, creating a dynamic, almost wing-like form. Clad entirely in dark natural timber, the structure sits lightly above the ground on slender timber columns, hovering amongst the trees rather than imposing on them.
Separated from the house and accessed via a winding path through the bush, the carport was designed as its own quiet architectural moment, a dark, textured object resting in the canopy. The contrast between the rich timber and the surrounding rainforest is dramatic, especially in the dappled morning light.
More than just a place to park cars, Timber Wing is a small architectural response to its environment, part shelter, part sculpture.
