Tian Han, the lyricist of Chinese National Anthem, was a pioneer in Chinese art and the principal founder of Chinese modern drama art. The local council decided to extend Mr.Tian’s former residence ( Orchard town, Changsha ) to a cultural park integrating display, drama performance and local drama rehearsal in celebration of his 120th birthday and in remembrance of Mr. Tian's great artistic achievements and unyielding spirit.
The site of Mr.Tian’s former residence is surrounded by paddy fields and rolling hills, along with the cottages along the roads and slopes, forming the natural settlement of clusters. Different from the symmetrical and isolated characters of standard memorial park, Tian Han Cultural Park adopts a design layout of openness and decentralisation to allow the buildings in the cultural park to blend into the fields and settlements. At the same time, through the contemporary interpretation of tradition, the architecture tries to convey a certain characteristic of contemporary and traditional artistic conception.
