THYSEEN KRUPP ELEVATOR COMPETITION - Tall Emblem Structure in Za`abel Park
Type
The shape of skyscraper and its appearance associates
with an iceberg. The thawing block of ice in Dubai
– the city where nothing is impossible and to discover a cool place among the unbearable
heat is a dream of everyone. At the eternal sunny arid desert it is like a
mirage and oasis of freshness and the most desirable place to be in.
All high-rise building elements are restricted to 170 meters height.
View in plan maximal overall building dimensions are
100x100 meters witch gives a possibility to fit huge spaces in it besides
different small-scale areas that usually skyscrapers are saturated with.
The inner structure of the shape includes multilevel spaces and green planting areas – mini
oases with its own microclimate.
The building supplied with all room types links to
mass cultural and social center.
Thus, spacious halls for sports and cultural events
are included to the room’s structure.
Trading areas are situated on the lower levels; then
museums, exhibition halls, conference rooms, libraries, observation points and attendant
spaces.
First level is situated in the level of the ground
filled up with water and it symbolizes
a melting glacier.
There are matt and transparent types of glazing with
different density between the glass and opaque surfaces used in the whole
building.
So there are walls with perforation, structural
glazing and graphic drawings in parapet constructions, as well as areas with
solid glazing and opaque surfaces.
Therefore external
cover tend to be different for perception and associates with various
conditions of water: ice could be transparent or opaque and it demonstrates its
structural grid beauty while freezing in a thin layer.
The most glazing areas are used as solar batteries which increase energy efficiency and make the building more
self-sufficient and autonomous.
Also man-made funnels in the upper parts
of the skyscraper collect up and utilize rain water.
The tall white building is surrounded by the green park as if melts in
the middle of the main area.
During the night time the skyscraper will attract
people with its different abstract graphic arts and videos, reminding aurora
borealis providing excellence to each moment.
