The historical presence of a votive chapel, the distinctive morphology
of the site and the footpaths determined the structure of the project. While
the private spaces of the house are placed on the lower levels, the living room
is defined externally by a terrace on the highest level of the house. The
specific morphological insertion inverts the relations of vicinity, isolating
the new building from its setting and relating it towards the garden and the
lake. Indoors, the carefully designed fenestration creates a “chosen view” of
the landscape while the light and sounds from the lake enter and form part of
the space of the living room, and project the interior towards the exterior.
The design of the green terraces on the outside not only defines a continuity
with the internal spaces but also confers an additional value on the historic
existing structures and the footpaths that link the lower road to the centre of
Porta.
