Three limestone forms turn away from the harsh Texas sun, creating a powerful yet respectful presence in one of Austin's more memorable neighborhoods. The skewed walls and varied openings provide drama reminiscent of narrow canyons or ancient ruins. A rugged coursed stone exterior and a paint-grip galvanized roof contrast with the sharply carved interior of honed concrete floors, white walls, and white oak details. Windows are carefully placed to provide natural ventilation and to diffuse daylight into interior spaces. The living areas open to buffalo grass, live oaks, and terraces of indigenous plants. Sudden spring storms sometime take center stage at the rainwater pool. Builder: Wilmington-Gordon Inc.Photography: Greg Hursley
