Three Colors of Silk

Firm
Three Colors of Silk is a three-fold strategy that offers a new view on the Chinese central business district. A HEALTHY city where active transportation methods - walking and cycling - take the central role in the urban experience. By integrating a public transportation network and reorganizing the hierarchy in favor of cyclists and pedestrians, we create the base for a new relation between people and cars. WILD nature becomes an integral part of the city: taking advantage of Shenzhen’s sub-tropical climate we propose to turn streets into a lush landscape that acts as an amenity for citizens, as an important ecological connection and as a method to mitigate extreme meteorological events. Taking inspiration from the existing cultural DIVERSITY of Shenzhen’s 12 million inhabitants, we propose a similar variety in architecture and public spaces. We create a flexible open space design that provides the opportunity for a very wide range of people to use and live the city in different ways.
