The Thornton Pavilion is located at the heart of a new residential development in North Penrith. The 700m² building overlooking a historic Oval, accommodates community meeting spaces and offices as well as public use amenities and an all-abilities playground. The Pavilion opened early 2013 and is operating as the sales pavilion for the Thornton development prior to its intended use as a community centre. The design is based on classic pavilion architecture, a single-storey structure with large open plan areas, maximising its open space outlook. Custom-made metal screens provide a design feature as well as protection against vandalism, for the glazed doors which enclose the main community spaces. MBMO provided full design services based on an existing sketch design.
