On a coastal plot, in an unexplored side of the Amvrakikos gulf, a complex of four, partially encaved holiday residences was created.
The isolated location and the landscape of unique beauty determined the architectural approach, the aim of which was to balance the building functional needs with the natural environment. The composition was based on the intention to leave the landscape intact as much as possible, but also on the desire to orient all the areas of the complex towards the sea view just in front.
The access to the plot is achieved from the upper sidewhere the buildings themselves are not visible, except of a curved stone wall trace. When approaching, the visitor discovers the entrance area, lowered by one floor, corresponding to each residence.
A slightly curved stone wall, almost parallel to the coastline, is the connecting element of the four houses, but also the dividing medium between the underground and above-ground part of each property.
All four residences consist of similar spaces, where all the bedrooms – two per residence – are encaved, lined up behind the stone wall, while the living areas are an independent building located in the front. Each residence has been adapted to the small height difference of the natural landscape along the wall, creating an interesting volumetric sequence
An outdoor corridor covered with a pergola running across the wall gives the possibility and flexibility of functionally connecting the houses, while at the same time it links the individual spaces, emphasizing and strengthening the morphology of the composition.
The above-ground buildings indicate each property, while outdoor yards shaded by metal pergolas with willow trees wood on top are created between them. In continuation with the outdoor relaxation areas, an infinity pool has been provided, parallel to the view, while absolute privacy is provided to each residence, by in – between stone wall separations.
Both from the access point to the plot as well as from the sea, the complex is almost hidden, letting nature take center stage, fulfilling our original intention.
