Theater of the Academy of Fine Arts, Naples, Italy (2009)
The Theater of the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, symbol of excellent teaching methodology, opened to the public again in 2010 after a restoration that lasted less than one year. The architecture firm Alvisi Kirimoto + Partners was commissioned by the Naples’ Public Works Superintendent to conceive and supervise the restoration project.
The project aimed at providing the theater with better tools for expressing its central importance in the teaching of the performing arts today, and especially for the institution’s famous school of set design.
The restoration works developed around the stage and the pit, reviewing the interior's aesthetics, improving the hall's acoustic performances and reorganizing the service areas. The new acoustic panels are conceived like grey wooden leaves that follow the acoustic curve and the project improved even the stage’s visibility for the audience, creating a single pit with staggered rows on an ascending platform.
