For The Wing’s third location, ALA’s preserved the industrial character of a former tape factory in Dumbo while playfully reinterpreting its plan and section; the material palette similarly combines preserved surfaces with rich, contemporary colors and textures. Across the 9,000-square-foot interior, a range of environments allow for transition from social interaction to retreat and focus. A central, double-height space features seating areas at different elevations that can be used collectively to host large events, or individually for smaller meetings and concentrated work.
An L-shaped upper mezzanine offers smaller tables and seating arrangements with dramatic views of the Brooklyn Bridge, while the library playfully features hidden doors that lead to spacious phone booths. The back-of-house contains restrooms, showers, a nursing/pumping room, and a “Beauty Room,” where vanity niches built around an existing octagonal concrete pillar recall hammams or Turkish baths. Other amenities include a Cafe, a podcast recording room, a wellness room, and meeting rooms.
