The William Street Bird is a small, inner-city live music venue created by and for music lovers. Undertaken by the client on the tightest of budgets, the space (which once housed an optometrist) has been stripped back, torn down and transformed into an atmospheric performance space and drinking spot. The design and construction process grew organically, and lent itself to some opportune discoveries. The architect and client approached the project with an experimental attitude. The finished result is an eclectic and personal design, with striking features including a brick bar – built using the bricks recovered from the removed internal walls.
