The White Cottage was built around the guiding principle of simple design with an efficient open plan. The main focal point of the project is centered around a main gathering room with 14 foot high ceiling that serves as a dining area as well. This space also flows into the kitchen area with a clear view to the rear of the property. Specific details such as the barn door hardware in the bathrooms, exposed redwood columns, and a combination of board and baton and lap siding give the project a farmhouse cottage sensibility. The client was interested in maximizing the use of light and windows. All rooms in the house have at least two walls with windows.
