This is one of our endevour under 'Architect For Left-over Spaces'. It is our prize-winning entry to the 'Paint The Town Green Award' originised by Platinum Victory Sdn. Bhd. in 2019.
We envisage a pavilion at one of the under utilised spaces at The Palette, a mall at Kuala Lumpur, that narrates a wide range of sustainability issues;
1. reducing urban heat island effect,
2. reducing land-clearing farming, promoting 'Farm-to-Fork' route at the mall to reduce food carbon foorprint,
3. repurpose wooden crates,
4. recycling plastic water containers.
The pavilion is a hybrid of a shaded outdoor social space, a vertical urban farm and an urban art installation, built from recycled wooden crates & repurposed plastic water containers.
We have selected the landscape area at the south-east side of The Palette as the site which strategically links the Danau Kota Lake Park to the development. We proposed a pavilion with a series of archs to occupy part of the landscape area to frame the link.
On grander scale, with tiny footprint, these modular farms can be easily replicated along the side walks or
landscape pockets in the cities to serve nearby residents or shops, not only to increase shades in the cities but also to have more 'Farm-to-Fork' route incorporated into the food supply system of the cities. It also adds an instagram-friendly urban art character to the cities and enables the wooden crates & plastic water containers to be repurposed in a big way.
