The design is based on the creation of a small hybrid “Green Garden” that interconnects both the interior and exterior of the house. This new proposed green space, has the ability to host the social activities of the owners in a more causal manner, within the shelter provided by the overwhelming plantation. Plants are used as a “filtering” tool for the external surrounding ‘noise’ and sunlight, providing a great sense of privacy and tranquility.
Access for the new proposed space can be granted independently, or through the connection of the existing living areas and kitchen of the house.
Emphasis is given on the physical / visual connection of the kitchen that is redesigned to the family’s lifestyle needs, providing services to the exterior green space.
The external living zone, with mobile custom made retractable furniture is designed to provide direct connection with the new kitchen, enhancing the spatial and programmatic qualities of the existing house.
Within the new green space, a sitting / cooking zone, suspended below ground level is proposed, allowing for a more casual and intrepid spatial, cooking experience.
The last sector of the proposal has a more supportive role, with its main use confined in storing garden’s furniture and cutlery.
The new programme unifies under the shelter of the proposed metal ‘ribs’ and the greenery that wraps around them, generating a green “curtain” that provides shelter, privacy and tranquility from the busy City noise.
