Commissioned by the British Museum and Hidden Cities for the Bloomsbury Festival 2010 and created by Urban Brew, The Tree of Life gave members of the public the chance to enter the Egyptian Underworld through a 3 dimensional public installation. A series of soundscapes composed by Jonathan Rousseau added to the experience. The public were invited to write their names on a paper bird, an reference taken from the legendary Tree of Life, and hang it within the Arbour of Russell Square. The Egyptians believed that nothing existed without a name, and it was the god Ptah which pronounced all things into being. Visitors to the Bloomsbury Festival could walk through the 3dimensional installation of birds whilst experiencing a soundscape interpreting the words: Underworld, Illumination and Sunrise. 4500 Birds were hung over the festival weekend. The Project team were: Mark Rousseau, Natalie Smith, Raquel Sampson, Phil Stevens, Sarah Siena Edwards, Composer - Jonathan Rousseau, Festival support provided by Josh Roberts and Joe Zeno Edwards.
