This project revives the tradition of the courtyards of the historic center of Quito, which always contain a central element, whether a fountain or a tree.
The project proposes an alternative solution to contemporary roofs in the Historic Center, which seal the space completely. This is achieved through a design that allows natural ventilation between the existing roof and the new project.
The material is inspired by the pieces of jewelry that belong to Casa del Alabado’s permanent exhibition. The texture of the branches allows filtered light to shine through, providing a pleasant atmosphere during the day.
The manufacturing system was developed so that the tubes can be automatically folded. The cartridges are designed to configure a light skin, on top of which sits a glass cover. The project develops a construction system that minimizes on-site work, incorporating a design which is largely prefabricated, allowing for a quick installation. The metal structure is treated as noble material and does not require aesthetic coatings.
