The new Faculty of Informatics building at the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin redefines the concept of a university campus by blending sustainable design with an environment that encourages social interaction and community engagement. Built on a modular timber framework, the building’s design is guided by a thorough analysis of the faculty’s needs and an understanding of the importance of community in modern education. The structure connects seamlessly with existing facilities, with covered walkways linking different sections, enabling free movement and protection from the weather. These links encourage circulation throughout the campus while creating new social spaces where students and staff can meet, study informally, and build community connections. A central courtyard, surrounded by preserved trees, offers a peaceful retreat from academic life, integrating nature and green spaces into the daily experience of campus life.
In line with its commitment to sustainable architecture, the building’s design incorporates a range of environmentally friendly solutions.
