This project is a renovation of an existing house that needed to be converted into a home for the woman who was living there for years but never felt as if it was her real home.
The existing house was completely stripped from the inside but the existing wooden structure to support the roof was conserved. The ground floor and the first floor were demolished and replaced with a new concrete floor. The existing house is insulated on the inside in order to preserve the rather peculiar historical front façade. (19th century)
In the design of the house, the choice was made to locate the bedrooms on the ground floor and the kitchen, dining and living room on the top floor but in an open yet private way.
Extra attention was paid to the materials used in this project because the woman in this house only wanted 'real' materials and old techniques. This resulted in for example the choice to have (handmade) barn-like doors.
