With the design for this residential conversion of a 1930s industrial building constructed by Lewis Steel Products, the team created an architectural biography of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Vestiges of the original structure blend with handmade features produced by the neighborhood’s finest craftsmen, drawing a narrative thread between local production then and now. The original, oversized factory windows framing the front of the building and light fixtures fabricated from steel salvaged onsite live happily alongside luxurious modern amenities like EcoSmart fireboxes, glass showers, and a communal rooftop kitchen and cinema.
