Rebuilding
the facade of the Pushkinsky cinema in the context of Moscow's rich history is
an important urban and cultural challenge. Pushkinsky is a symbol of Russia's
film industry (cinema), it hosts the opening and closing ceremonies, award
ceremonies as well as Moscow International Film Festival, therefore history and importance of this cinema drives
us to our concept idea that takes forms
and themes of the past and re-evaluates them for contemporary architecture.
Cinema is nothing else but a theater. The THEATER
becomes the centerpiece of our
research and the new "face" of Pushkinsky cinema follows that idea.
This project is inspired by a basic elements of a theater structure. All
theater structures, regardless of type, contain certain basic elements: a stage, a designated space for the performances of theatrical productions with decorations that are
constantly changing, and the seating
area for the audience. This elements will help us to create a grotesque modern-day architectural concept where past
meets the future.
The “Theater” concept is not the recreation of a classic historic elements
instead of the cinema facade, it is rather a opulence of form, which resides in
certain familiar items from the past and exaggerates it's formal
characteristics so that it becomes new. Another
important of this project is to integrate perfectly new shape
into eclectic architecture of the whole square. helping the facade
of the cinema and home of the Moscow
International Film Festival to
provide a new intersection between public space, cultural programs,
entertainment, technology and architecture creating vibrant landmarks within
the urban landscape. The last but not
the least important point is to bring in
the project the usage of Eco friendly materials and technologies, so that
"Theater concept" becomes a complete combination of history,
technology and innovation.
